System Modelers 7/10/2023
Robert Harpe, Southern X3317: From a Blue Box model to a Red Caboose. I had a customer ask me if I would take his Athearn Blue Box caboose and see if it could be made into a Southern model and I told him to send it to me and let me try. After receiving the model, I remembered seeing several Athearn Bay Window models that guys had tried to make look like a Southern model, but the overall appearance just didn't cut it. I called my good friend Rusty Evans who has built more WrightTrak models than anyone I know and asked him if he had any spare parts left over from the models he had built in the past. He told me that he had a few parts left and would send them to me. The parts I really needed were the end rails and the caboose steps which were parts that make a model look like a Southern caboose. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears I finally had what I thought would make a nice HO scale model caboose clinging onto the rear of a Southern train.
